Personality: Claire has a sweet and caring disposition, though like anyone else she can get riled, especially when the safety of her loved ones are threatened. She loves reading and writing, and after crashing on the island began keeping a journal. She once aspired to be a tattoo artist, but now admits she has little to no talent in that area - she occasionally doodles, but anything more than that usually doesn't turn out well. Claire is fascinated by horoscopes and astrology, and knows how to do some palm reading, though she's not an expert. Before crashing on the island, she had a little herb garden, and knows a little about their holistic uses. She blames herself for her mother's vegetative state, and suffers the guilt for that. Mostly she tries to remain optimistic, though her empathy for others causes her to worry a lot. She is "the only Australian who loves peanut butter", and of course is also very fond of tea.
Ability: Chlorokinesis - The ability to control plant life. Includes being able to accelerate/stop plant growth, or to draw energy from plants, withering them in the process.
History: Claire was born in Sydney, Australia, and raised there by her mother, Carole Littleton. She knew almost nothing of her father, and the only memory she had of him was that he would sing her to sleep when she was very little. She was told that her father died, and grew up believing this. During her rebellious teenage years, Claire and her mother got into a car accident during an argument. Claire sustained only minor injuries, while her mother went into a deep coma. It was at this time that Claire met her father, Christian Shepherd, who was alive and well, and who paid for her mother's hospital bills. Christian came to visit Claire while she was at work doing piercings in a tattoo parlor, and took her out for coffee, where he suggested that she take her mother off of life support. Furious, Claire stormed off, saying that she didn't even know his name - and she didn't want to.
When she was 24, Claire was working a minimum-wage job at a fast-food restaurant when she learned that she was pregnant by her boyfriend, Thomas. At first the two decided that they would have the baby together, but when Claire was six and a half months pregnant, Thomas got cold feet and walked out on her. Claire decided to give her baby up for adoption, despite the urgings of a psychic she'd visited with a friend that she raise the child herself. Claire was about to sign her baby over for a couple to adopt, but when three different pens didn't work for her to sign her name, she walked out on the agreement. After visiting the psychic again, this time of her own volition and at eight months pregnant, he told her that he knew of a great couple in Los Angeles that would adopt her child, and gave her a plane ticket - for Flight 407, which would leave the next day.
