Emmeline Cassandra Tyler
"don't loose your way with each passing day,
you've come so far, don't throw it away,"
you've come so far, don't throw it away,"
Full Name: Emmeline Cassandra Tyler
Nicknames: Emma, Emmy, Em, Ems, Tyler...
Gender: female
Age: 18
Member Group: Fuselage Survivor
Canon, Adoptable, or Original?: original
Height: 5'3"
Body Type: Not one of those unheathy, skinnier-than-a-toothpick girls, Emma is slender but athletic. She has small curves, and is quite fit from a long-time love of sports. While she is a bit on the short side, her stature does not do her a disservice when it comes to grace and agility. High cheekbones and a delicate bone structure gives her an almost elfin appearance. A pale complexion tends to give her a winter rose aura, but in the summer, it isn’t uncommon to see her with a sunburned nose. Even with the help of the bright summer sun, she doesn’t tan much darker than a light golden shade, but she tends to slather on sun screen, since she has a tendency to burn easily. Despite her best efforts though, after a day out in the sun, the bridge of her nose and cheekbones usually resemble a ripe strawberry.
Hair: Probably a telling feature of Ms Tyler would have to be Emma’s lovely auburn hair. Or at least, she’s liked to think of it as auburn since reading Anne of Green Gables. In her younger years, her straightish-wavy, just-below-shoulder-length tresses earned her nicknames such as “Red,” and she didn’t actually mind so much. “Carrots” was one she wouldn’t stand for, though, and she would always reply precociously to the offender that “carrots are orange, my hair is red, thank-you-very-much.” Her hairstyle varies between letting it hang down around her shoulders (when she’s too lazy to bother doing anything with it), or tied back in a ponytail or various other style. Over the summer she drastically changed her hair, though, giving herself brownish-blonde highlights and cutting layers and a fringe/bangs into her hair.
Eyes: Soft hazel-brown eyes decorate Emmeline’s face, frequently sparkling with a smile or looking thoughtful as she contemplates some interesting tidbit of information or other. Her eyes aren’t necessarily what one would call “large, beautiful doe-eyes” but rather are more simple, pretty diamonds in the rough, waiting for the right people to notice their charm rather than letting every odd person see through the windows into Em’s soul.
Other Notable Features: Miss Tyler has never been a big supporter of body piercings or tattoos on herself, and has only her ears pierced. Ever cautious about getting her earrings ripped out, Em usually only wears dangling earrings when she needs to look formal, and for the most part she just wears small studs, or no earrings at all. As far as unwanted marks on her body go, she has a long scar on the left side of her body, reaching from the back of her shoulder blade down around her ribs to end jaggedly just above her hip bone. Not too many people know about this scar, of course, since she usually keeps it covered, and wears one-pieced swimming suits while in the water to prevent people from seeing.

A loving heart is the truest wisdom.—Charles Dickens
Not overly trusting, Emmeline Tyler doesn’t let just anybody into her circle of trusted individuals. Those she does let in are individuals who have earned her undying loyalty, and she would take any secret entrusted to her to the grave. To those she truly loves, she is affectionate, even on a physical level, and has no qualms ruffling someone’s hair or playfully punching someone’s shoulder for being funny.
Silence does not always mark wisdom.—Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Though it could just be a nicer way of saying ‘stubborn’ Emmeline has always been considered very persistent. When she wants something, she doesn’t take no for an answer, no matter how many times she has to ask, or how many different bribes she has to think up. If there’s something wrong with one of her friends, she will find out what it is and if there’s anything she can do to help.
No man was ever wise by chance.—Seneca
Even as a child, Em was a good observer of the world around her, and isn’t the kind of girl who needs to be around people all the time. She’s perfectly comfortable just sitting by herself either watching everyone else, or reading a book. That’s not to say she’s anti-social or painfully shy or anything. She’s just able to take care of herself and not depend on dozens of other people to entertain her 24/7. She much prefers quiet intelligent conversation to loud partying, and is happier in her group of close friends than being the center of attention in a crowd of people she barely knows.
The middle course is the best.—Cleobulus
Quite a stoic individual, Emma is very logical with her emotions and reactions to things. Girls tend to confuse and frustrate her with their tendency to spill out a wide range of emotions and make decisions based on those. Em knows that emotions are not rational, and that making any decision based on an irrational response is completely idiotic. That isn’t to say she’s emotionless, Em does like a good cry now and then, but she is controlled more by the logical part of her mind than the emotional part.
Ability: precognitive dreams/visions: she can see things that are either from the past, present, or future. Usually coming to her in the form of dreams or nightmares, there are also instances when she'll see flashes of something right before it happens, seeming to give her a sixth sense for danger of sorts.
History: Born to a middle-class family in a suburb on the northern side of Chicago, the day Emmeline came into the world was the day her mother left it. Having fallen ill during her pregnancy, Mrs Cassie Tyler had been given the option of having her child prematurely to save her own life, or wait and save the life of her child, risking her own. Choosing the latter, Cassie's last act was naming her daughter, and handing the newborn to her husband. Raised by her father and his twin sister, Emma and her elder brother Riff lived pretty normal lives. A combination of Ms Elizabeth Tyler's want for her niece to be well-cultured, and Emmeline's own love for music, the little girl learned how to play piano and cello as she grew, though despite Aunt Elizabeth's pleading, Riff couldn't be swayed to learn any instrument other than the guitar and electric bass.
Emma was extremely attached to her father, and delighted in going to his office and sitting for hours watching him work on some legal case or another. It was he who introduced her to all the classic films, even when Riff would get bored and leave to run around outside with his friends. And it was he who took her on a motorcycle for her tenth birthday. Emmeline had discovered motorcycles while watching movies with her father, and was completely fascinated by the contraptions. Riff shared her enthusiasm for motorcycles, even though their aunt didn't particularly approve. As she grew older and attended grade school, her temperament remained as friendly as ever, and even though she developed her brother’s stubbornness on some occasions, she was always the peacemaker of her friends.
The year she was ten marked a good deal of change for Miss Emma. For one thing, it was the year her father let her ride a motorcycle for her birthday, for another, it was the year her father died. After a Friday night theatre performance downtown Chicago in the winter, Emmeline and her father had been driving back home when Em insisted on going down Lake Shore Drive instead of simply taking the expressway. With the snow as thickly falling as it was, the lake always was picturesque as it crashed up on the shore, and delightful for a child to watch from the warmth of the car window driving down Lake Shore Dr. They never made it home, because they were hit head-on by a tired truck driver who wasn't able to avoid a large patch of ice on the road, and skidded right over the median into the small sedan. All three were rushed to the hospital, unconscious. The truck driver lost a leg, and Emmeline was in the hospital for two weeks, but her father never woke up. Completely shaken by the incident, Emma blamed herself for months, waking up from nightmares crying that if she hadn’t suggested taking Lake Shore Dr, none of this would have happened.
Hiding her depression behind a cheerful smile, Emma seemed to ‘get over’ her post traumatic stress disorder within a few years, and threw herself into music and her schoolwork, graduating early from high school at the top of her class. Never wanting to trouble others with her problems, Emmeline kept a positive outlook when she’s around her friends, keeping instead a journal with snippets of thoughts, song lyrics (either that she wrote, or that were from already existing songs she just wrote out), poems, and various other page-fillers.
Wanting to get far away from home and memories, just to start a clean slate, Emmeline went to Australia for college, going to school with a double major in pre-medicine and music, minoring in marine biology. Debating whether or not to go into medical school or veterinary school, Em's plans for spending the summer at a dolphin rescue facility in LA were thwarted when her plane from Australia crashed...
